Natapong Jupatanakul

I am a first year Masters degree student in the Moleular Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) department, JHSPH. I graduated from Mahidol University, Thailand where I did my thesis research with Dr.Timothy Flegel, Dr.Boonsirm Withyachumnarnkul, and Dr.Kallaya Sritunyalucksana. During my thesis work, I was fascinated by the invertebrate immune response to pathogens, especially virus infection. Thus, I decided to join the Dimopoulos Group to explore the mysterious world of mosquito immunity. VIDEO PRESENTATION /  Contact: njupatan@jhsph.edu

Bio:

Current research:
I am interested in the immune response of the mosquito, Aedes aegypti, to dengue virus infection. Right now, I am trying to suppress genes involved in the mosquito immune response, MD2 and C-type lectin family, to observe the effect on dengue virus infection. My long term goal is to try to find the factor that either can help mosquitoes clear the virus or make the mosquitoes more susceptible to the virus and eventually killed by the virus.
